Teacher guide · Step 2
Set up your class
Create a classroom for each class you teach, then share its join code so students can enrol.
Create a classroom
- In the web app, choose Classroom in the menu on the left, then Create a classroom. Open it
- Give it a name students will recognise, such as Spanish 2 — Period 3. A description is optional.
- Choose the language you're teaching and your students' language. Chatterbox teaches Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and English. The pair can't be changed later, and every set you assign in this class must teach the same language.
- Select Create classroom. Your class opens with its join code at the top.
If you aren't signed in, the web app asks you to sign in first and then opens the map. From there, choose Classroom in the menu on the left.
Invite your students
Every class has a six-character join code. Select Copy code and share it however you normally would: on the board, in your learning platform, or in an email.
Students need a free Chatterbox account of their own. Then they enter the code:
- On the web: Classroom → Join a class with a code → Join.
- On a phone: the Exercises tab → Classrooms → enter the code → Join.
Send them the student page, which walks them through it with a video. As students join, they appear on your class page by display name.
Managing a class
- Rename a class from its page at any time.
- Generate a new join code if the old one gets around. Students already enrolled stay enrolled.
- Remove a student from the class roster. Their homework results for that class are deleted, and they'd need the code to rejoin.
- Archive a class at the end of a term. Nobody new can join and the results are kept. You can reopen it later.
- Delete a class to remove it, its roster and all its homework results for good. Your vocabulary sets are kept.
